CAWS will revisit the Horton Grand Hotel in San Diego for our annual Fall Forum October 24-25. Early registration will commence the evening of the 24th at 5:30 pm with beverages available in the hotel lounge. Many fine restaurants are close by in the gaslamp quarter for those early birds who wish to enjoy a great meal. Accommodations at the Horton are available at a reduced rate the night of the 24th. The conference begins at 7am on the 25th with registration and breakfast. Tom Krucli, The Diploma Coordinator from Mission Viejo High School, will be the keynote speaker. His presentation will focus on authentic assessment, one of the unique features of all three IB Programmes, and its relationship to Learning Theory. IB teachers encourage students to solve problems, show creativity and resourcefulness, and demonstrate learning just as they would in real life. Mr. Krucli will explore strategies for success in implementation of this type assessment in relationship to learning. He will be assisted by a panel of Diploma Examiners, and assessment experts from the Middle and Primary Years Programmes. Their overall goal is to help IB teachers improve their own authentic assessment strategies and have greater success with their students.
