Synopsis
Our fall conference on October 20th takes place at the Horton Grand Hotel in the historic
Gaslamp district of downtown San Diego. We are very pleased to feature Salomon Zavala, General Counsel, Semillas Sociedad Civil sharing his story of how access to good schools
and programs allowed him to succeed despite his circumstances. Following a question and answer period, a panel of practitioners from all three IB Programmes will discuss the issue
of access and closing the achievement gap. Breakout sessions for Diploma, MYP, and PYP
will allow schools in each programme to share strategies that they find successful. Time is
also allotted during the breakouts for discussion of school issues and concerns. We welcome Marjorie McConnell, the Education Programs Consultant from the California Department of Education, who has taken an active part in legislating for state funding for CAWS member
schools and will convey the latest information to us. Also joining us will be Pam Bachilla,
our Legislative Advocate from School Innovations and Advocacy, who will bring us up to
date on legislative initiatives. Our annual business meeting will begin the day on the 20th.
